    64 Valiant Signet 200 Hardtop

I wasn't planning on posting another one of my builds so soon (don't want to be a "Forum Pig") but after reading the kind words in "Coocoochris's" reply in my 63 Fury topic, some felt I should post this build as well. As the title says, it's a 1964 Plymouth Valiant Signet 200 Hardtop. The kit is an AMT "Craftsman Series" annual from 1964. These kits were basically unassembled promotionals (aka "curbside" in todays lingo) with no engine provisions or opening hood. They came with holes already opened up in the body for spotlights, mirrors, antennas and so on (which I wisely filled in.) They were "snap kits" requiring no glue. The cost was only $1.00 in 1964! This build is painted with "MCW" (of course!) paint... 1964 Plymouth "Dark Blue Metallic" (Chrysler code "E"), MCW code # 6350. No clear coat was used, just like in 1964...it's simply buffed out. The interior is a combination of MCW semi-gloss light and medium blue metallic, with blue flocking for carpeting. I built this as a duplicate of the vehicle my father bought new in Sept. 1964 at Arnett Chrysler-Plymouth. The car lasted (with my aunt owning it) until 1986 with well over 300,000 miles on the original 170 Slant Six. Before anyone mentions that it needs an outside mirror...they were optional at extra cost in 1964. This too is an older build of about 4 years ago....one of my first builds after a 30 year absence in the hobby. Sorry again for the poor photo lighting and props...this was shot 2 years ago as an experiment. Hope you enjoy it....not too common of a kit either. Fury3

Thanks for posting pictures of your Valiant Signet 200! I printed it out and pinned it up already! that and the pic.of Mkowa Phd. at his bench-that's good stuff right there! I went to Modelroundup and saw the resin of the Valiant, who is the caster? I'm going to order one maybe two,saw an original kit a few years back but bulked at the $165.00 price tag, snoozed then i loozed and it was GONE! on my 1:1 63 Valiant the taillights are different,as I'm sure you know, and the grill looks like a 63 Rambler American, other than that the 63 and 65 are very close, after I saw your 63 Plymouth HT.I put my 63 Ply. wagon in the bleach, thanks for lighting THAT fire!

Another beauty from the Fury collection! Did you have the bumpers re-chromed, it looks much better than the stuff you get in kits today, the chrome you can rub through with your fingers! I wonder if the tooling is still around for this kit, this would be a great re-issue. Looks great Dave, keep 'em coming!

I have a suspicion that the tooling was reworked into the '65 and '66 Barracudas, which still exist as the Hemi Under Glass. Others may know more, though.

Looks Great Fury!!! I have been trying to get ahold of a '64-66 Signet for some time, as I got an Old '65 Cuda Promo that I have been waiting to detail out(I picked it up at a Local Garage Sale back when I was 19. The Guy that was selling it, had $75 on it, and his wife just gave it to me when he was in the house.. Cause she thought I was Tall & Cute LOL) .....

I can almost hear those solid lifters ticking away.......Ah, the sound of a Slant at idle. Even better than a Hemi at WOT. Another beautiful build. Don't worry about hogging the forum, we NEED more stuff like this. Keep'em coming.

Look great, Fury!  I remember these cars and my wife actually had a Plymouth Valiant, I think, when I first met here. Don't remember the year but it was the one with the fake continental kit in the trunk lid. Great job on this one!

Beautiful! I have but one question; Whom won the compact car production in 1963? I know there was the Ford Falcon, Plymouth Valiant and Chevrolet Chevy II, but which had the best sales?

repete after me ...I'm not a site hog...Keep them coming . No one is complaining . We like your builds . Yes , me too . Please don't stop . Did not Falcon win the sales war ? I have the same color on my '63 Fury Hardtop . It is most excellent on this Valiant . The dies weren't modified to make Barracudas in the day . Just a seperate die that changed to yearly specifications . "66 was a large makeover and only done as a Promo . Have you seen the going freight on those ? Someone is doing a resin of that one . Thank you for sharing...

Thank you everyone for the positive comments. Your 63 Fury is painted Red, like mine...not Dark Blue Metallic....unless you built another one  (by the way...very nice!). You are correct about the history of the tooling for this kit. These Valiant kits had nothing to do with the Barracuda tooling's, which were completely different. This 1964 kit was updated to the 1965 Valiant Signet Hardtop (they finally filled in the holes  for the mirrors/spotlights/antennas). The "Craftsman Series" kits were canceled after 1965, so no further Valiant kits were produced. The resin 1966 Valiant Signet Hardtop promotional you mention is being done by "Missing Link Resin". I just got the kit last month and it is fabulous, and includes plated parts and correct 1966 promo style Valiant wheel covers. You must purchase the glass (1963-1965 will work!) and tires from "Modelhaus". Sure beats paying $600.00 - $900.00 for a very rare (this time the term  "rare" IS  being used properly!) original promotional! As far as the plating on this 1964 Valiant, I actually purchased a new resin rear bumper and front bumper/grille from "Modelhaus".  Still have the originals, and they are in excellent condition..for being over 44 years old. All right we are blessed with another fantastic looking build from Fury3. I remember driving my aunts Valiant for a couple of days way back in history. This one is an outstanding looking build. Thanks for sharing..
